For months, Freedmen Nation has made multiple attempts to contact John Leguizamo (@JohnLeguizamo) regarding his misrepresentation of American Freedmen history. Despite our efforts to provide him with accurate historical context, he has failed to acknowledge, correct, or retract his disinformation about Freedmen’s contributions to America.
We have also formally reached out to major media platforms that have given him a stage to spread these inaccuracies, including:
📺 @MSNBC
📺 @PBS
📺 @Peacock
None of these platforms have responded. Their silence speaks volumes about their unwillingness to engage with factual history and their complicity in allowing false narratives to persist.
Why This Boycott Matters
John Leguizamo has repeatedly misrepresented American Freedmen, distorting their history and erasing their unique lineage as the descendants of U.S. chattel slavery. His rhetoric attempts to rewrite our story, downplaying the systemic oppression Freedmen have endured and co-opting our identity into broader racial and ethnic categories that do not reflect our specific historical experience.
Freedmen Nation refuses to allow historical erasure to go unchallenged. This boycott is a direct response to Leguizamo’s refusal to engage in honest dialogue and correct his false claims.
The Final Straw: Ignoring Direct Communication
• January 25, 2025 – We sent a certified letter to John Leguizamo, formally requesting a public retraction of his false claims.
• January 29, 2025 – The letter was delayed in transit, last scanned at Los Angeles CA Distribution Center.
• February 4, 2025 – Due to USPS delays, we sent another certified letter and followed up with an email copy to ensure he received it.
• No response.
Meanwhile, MSNBC, PBS, and Peacock have also ignored our outreach, refusing to take responsibility for platforming misinformation.
Effective Immediately: The Freedmen Nation Boycott
Until John Leguizamo publicly acknowledges and corrects his misinformation, Freedmen Nation is officially boycotting him and any network that continues to amplify his falsehoods.
We encourage all Freedmen and allies to:
❌ Stop supporting projects affiliated with John Leguizamo
❌ Avoid networks that continue to promote his misinformation (MSNBC, PBS, Peacock)
❌ Use social media to demand accountability – Tag these networks and call for factual representation of Freedmen history
What’s Next?
This boycott will remain in effect until John Leguizamo submits a public apology and retraction for spreading falsehoods about American Freedmen history.
✔️ He must acknowledge that his statements were historically inaccurate.
✔️ He must issue a formal apology to the Freedmen community.
✔️ He must commit to ensuring that his future statements accurately reflect the unique history of American Freedmen.
If he refuses to do so, we will escalate our efforts, ensuring that his misinformation is exposed and held accountable at every level.
📢 Spread the word. Hold them accountable. The fight for truth continues.
